My XBOX just died…

What a bummer, I don’t think I have seen anything like this happen before but my XBOX just died on me. I just got a cheap copy of Ghost Recon 2 to play with my daughter and stuck it in the machine to take it for a whirl and low and behold… Nothing!

On closer examination it sounds like the hard drive has gone or something. At first I thought it was just an exceeding loud noice in the CD drive, a sort of loud spinning noise with a little click in it, when I ejected the CD though to try again it would seem that it was thw hard drive that was making the noise.

This has to be bad news, I am a little bemused by it though because I was playing Conker not that long ago and it was working fine. I dunno whether to open it up and see if my baby has put something in it or whether to write it off and just go get me a 360 (err… when I win the lottery)… what a bummer :(

Has anyone else out there experienced something similar? I haven’t been onto google yet to have a look for an answer, after all, google does have all the answers right?

Any help on this one would be massively appreciated but failing that I’ll easy take a shot of your 360 till I get my box fixed… no seriously ;-)

Sorry to hear about the xbox man, on a brighter note, your site is awesome! I really like the vibe going on here, and I’m looking forward to issue#2 of Pandemic.

Hi Andrew, yeah the whole xbox thing bombing out is a bit depressing, I hate it when things like that happen as it kinda forms a dark cloud over your head. A cloud that won’t go away until you fork out some cash to get it fixed!

On another note, glad you like the site and hopefully Pandemic issue 2 won’t be too far away for everyone. I look forward to seeing you about.

    Cheers

My Xbox DVD-ROM died on me last summer, when it was still well out of warranty (I won one of the first Xboxes before they hit the market through a Taco Bell contest), and Microsoft handled the whole thing in quite an impressive manner. They had me ship the Xbox to them and did the replacement for free. I think all I paid was the shipping and handling there. Call 1-800-MY-XBOX or whatever the number is… They were a lot of help to me.

Or, another option, I’m about to sell my Xbox to EBGames, having recently bought a 360. You could make me an offer I couldn’t refuse… :P

Hey Alex, thanks for the words of advice about getting in touch with Microsoft… I actually have one of the first boxes that came out also, I bought mine 3 weeks after they came out in this country.

Not gonna say how much but it cost me a bomb! Microsoft were good enough to give the first buyers 2 games and an extra controller for free when the first price drop came. Maybe they will take pity on me and do the drive for free also ;-)

Have your say...
