Over the years I have met many many people, made some friends and truth be known a few enemies along the way too. Why am I telling you this? Well, I had to open somehow
As time gets on and I get more grey hair, anyone I know will tell you that I’ve been increasingly more work orientated and far too uptight for my own good. I always seem to be doing something online whether it be helping a relative or a friend with their web stuff, writing on my own site or reading lots in an attempt to better myself. In the past I have focused my attention on the things & people in my life that I could relate to and without these people I don’t think I would be where I am today.
Back in September I went to my little cousins wedding, I hadn’t seen him for about 10 years or so and he was all grown up and stuff. We had a brief chat about what we were up to and he said he was starting up his own business, I told him that I was in the web game and beyond that we just caught up on the many years we hadn’t seen each other for. Not much to it really until I get a call a few months later asking if I would build a site for his business.
I am touched he refused other people that he knows on a day to day basis on the grounds that he would rather help family out but the best thing about it is that the conversations that we have begun to have are really quite inspiring. We sat chatting for ages the other weekend on the phone, it started out about his website but soon progressed into the mentality behind self development and a positive attitude. He had just come back from a conference in the states and was stoked at having an opportunity like that and continued to tell me about what his latest achievements were.
Achievements! What a word!
We talked about lots of things related to going it alone and taking the plunge for yourself in the business world, we talked about the excitement, the fear, the benefits and also the pitfalls. We clicked in a way that may not have been possible a few years ago because we were now on the same wave length, we were now like minded people.
Friendships are forged, businesses are built, deals are clinched… all because of like minded people. I love going to drum and bass nights and snowboarding because I get to hang out with like minded people. Empires have both been built and fallen due to the power of like minded people! See where I’m going with this?
I once wrote a poem (that some bastard stole at summer school and I never saw again) called “Friends”, it was a testamony to the strength and support and happiness you get from your friends. That poem still stands as my friends will be close to my heart forever! The interesting thing is that as I get older, I am seeing a similar pattern repeat itself as I try to push myself further in life and find other people are trying to do the same.
Like minded people make the world go round, without them each and every one one of us would be lost, the world would be a horrible place and nobody would get laid or do anything fun. Without like minded people we would have no internet, we would have nothing, no-one would talk to each other and if they did they wouldn’t bother taking any notice of what was being said let alone acting upon it.
Maybe I am wrong but I don’t think so… what do you think?
Son of a bitch! I had recorded a total of about 21 minutes of podcast mayhem when Audacity decided to crash out on me. I did however promise to make a podcast every thurday night so I rose from the ashes of dispair to record the next installment of the Az, caz & Co podcast.
I’m going to keep this post short as it is getting late and I have just had to make up some lost time, I hope you enjoy this installment of the show (dunno if it is a show or not… maybe it only becomes a show once it has a name??), please feel free to leave a comment to let me know what you think!
For those of you that don’t know what it is, I set up a challenge a while back to a game of Asteroids (which I utterly sucked at) in an attempt to get a bit of friendly rivalry on the go between some blogs.
I thought it would be a good idea to try and get a “tag” on the go for inter-blog-gaming so that folk could find challenges and take each other on. Maybe that will one day be my legacy but I doubt it
The last installment saw someone not only get the high score for on this site but Stupendo44 kicked some royal asteroid butt and ended up getting the world high score! Not bad huh?
As was the case with Asteroids, the current world high scores are to a very high standard but I hope you will all join me in a *cough* friendly game of Pacman… The reason why…
I have a serious love for Drum and Bass music & have been playing at a night for the last 8yrs, I figured it was about time that I shared some of that love. One of the guys that I play with is called DJ Davy and he happens to share that same love and sent me link to his latest mix which I though some of you may like to listen to. I hope you enjoy it…
This is it. Hold onto your hats folks as the new Az, Caz & Co podcast comes into effect. I’ve finally gotten round to firing up Audacity, Winamp, and some mild drum & bass to bring you some audio entertainment and hopefully add another dimension to the site.
You’ll have to bare with me on this one, it’s still early doors and I’ve never done anything on the audio production front before and one cannot learn everything in a day, I will however give it a damn good go
I’m hoping to try and roll one of these out once a week and most likely on a Thursday night because Caroline works and I will have peace and quiet to get things done. The kids might begin to worry about my sanity though!
Future plans for the podcast include a wealth of interviews on a variety of subjects such as digital, music, life in general and hopefully get some comedy nonsense on the go too. I hope you enjoy it, I know I am going to!
Well here it is, the first poem of mine that I am going to let loose on the world and at the same time try to get a Podcast up and running. I have been meaning to do it for a while and the only thing I’ve done to date is record a quick sample calling one of my mates an unsavoury name.
This is a poem that I actually got the idea for whilst in the shower one evening. I think that in order to appreciate poems you need to hear them so this is why I made the decision to record them… I hope you like this one, it’s called “Alternate Vicar”. I usually do it whilst drunk though so I may end up re-recording it… scary this podcast thing!
I dunno about you people out in net land but I have been getting the following error quite a lot recently:
Application error
Rails application failed to start properly
Now I don’t know about you but this to me throws a BIG alarm signal which is steering me away from even looking at Rails, despite liking the sound of it. I’m just curious to know how many of you are noticing the same thing???
I do realise that these things happen and I have crashed apache a couple of times in my day but to be honest I haven’t seen many errors that have actually frustrated me in a while and this is definitely one that has sprung up. Is it because Rails maybe isn’t super stable or is it because there are a lot of new people using it? Even if it is on the uptake, I will forgo the odd error message for someone playing with new technology but when it is a business / mission critical website then you have just lost my custom for life, I will never go back.
So here it is folks, the shiny new website, as promised and I hope you like it. I have re-designed the site as part of the CSS Reboot and if you feel so inclined, you can rate it by viewing my profile.
So what has changed around here? Quite a lot actually, gone is my modified K2 theme and in with the dark monkey and I am proud to welcome the addition of a regular comic called “Pandemic” by a grafitti artist called JZY. One of the things I wanted to do with this was to tone down bell and whistle plugins and roll with a focus on what I write, I plan to integrate a few more things but hey, time was tight and I needed to launch.
This is what my site looked like before the reboot:
This has been quite a big deal for me, I have a) never taken part in something like this and b) had an awful lot to learn in order to do the custom job that is now at your mercy. Please let me know what you think of it as feedback is always welcome.
Wow, feels good to be typing again instead of coding, I have been busy with work recently so was a little concerned I was going to run out of time. Many hrs have been spent in front of my computer in the last month and I thought at one point I may even be on the cards for divorcee of the year awards. Caroline has been patient with me and I have battled on and I think it has been worth the effort although there will no doubt be some refining going on over the next week or so.
There is nothing quite like a deadline to help you focus, it is harder to focus on a deadline when you have a family about, I am looking forward to not having the night time responsibility of building every night when I get in from building all day. I spent the day today in the park with my daughter and we had a ball and I am looking forward to doing more of things like that… oh yeah, and perhaps avoid that divorcees award
Anyway, that is my brief little write up on what I have done, I look forward to any feedback you may have and lets see what the future hold for us.
I’m back in full effect and I ain’t going anywhere soon!
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur,
